Face front, true believers!
This episode we’re covering S1E7: ‘Kraven the Hunter’.
We delve into what is the most ridiculous episode of the series yet, with one Russian jungle-themed maniac called Kraven. Henry is in love with him, Robbie Robertson is confused by him, and Jack is too busy wondering how Zero Waste Blanka fits into all of this.
Then, after our talk about the seventh episode of the series, we look into the origins of Kraven in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. Then we touch on Sony’s plans for a cinematic universe, and Henry pitches a Kraven movie that might just work…

Further podcast notes
Now, let’s move onto some classic issues that we referenced in the podcast.
Kraven’s first appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in 1964.
Chameleon’s bank robbery gang is rumbled by Spider-Man, but he makes it off without being detected.
Then he comes up with the bright idea to bring an old friend (and later, it’s revealed, half-brother) into the fold.
Kraven arrives at the docks to his adoring fans.
Jonah tries to get an interview with Kraven, but he’s only interested in hunting “the most dangerous game of all”. Before all of that, however, crates of animals break free and start rampaging, leaving Kraven to take down gorillas and snakes before Peter can even get changed into his costume.
Kraven meets up with Chameleon in his lair, where he gets up to speed on Spider-Man’s deal.
Then he heads out to the streets to study the costumed hero in action.
He takes him on, numbing Spidey’s shoulder in the process. He still manages to beat Kraven, so he cheats and poisons him.
Back at home, Peter tries to hide the shakes – but his Aunt is more interested in setting him up with Mary Jane Watson, who gets her first mention this issue (though she won’t turn up for another 30 or so).
At the Bugle, Kraven has some kind of meeting with Jonah, where the publisher insists that his manhunt stays legal.
Spider-Man tracks him to Central Park, not realising that he’s been lured into a trap by the Chameleon.
One Kraven plays the ‘jungle drum’ while the other attaches magnetic bracelets to Spider-Man to make him easier to hunt.
Eventually breaking free of the devices, he tracks down Kraven – only to reveal that this one is another Russian enemy of his.
The hunter becomes the hunted soon enough, and Kraven is caught in a web.
Peter gets some good shots of the ordeal, so is treated to the biggest bonus the Daily Bugle has to offer.
Later, both Kraven and Chameleon are deported.
They vow revenge, while Spidey happily watches them disappear into the sunset.
