S3E14 – Guess Who’s Goblin To Dinner | Turning Point

This week we’re covering season 3, episode 14 of Spider-Man: The Animated Series – Turning Point!

Madame Web is back with more unnecessarily vague riddles, Harry is making that face, the Green Goblin is a clumsy drug metaphor and Pete is starting fires out of social anxiety.

That’s right, it’s the end of the season.

THE SPOT’s Comic Origins

We recently talked about The Spot in our latest episode of Weird Lore Bullshit Corner, a podcast where we talk about Spider-Man’s weirdest dealings. You can find that here, or check out his origins below:

Jonathan Ohnn, who would later become The Spot, first appeared in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #97 in 1984, written by Al Milgrom and with art by Herb Trimpe – before making his cover debut in #99.

Weird Lore BS Corner #10: THE SPOT

What if a man could portal anywhere? And what if he wore those portals all over his body like some sort of dalmation man?

We mark this landmark occasion with a character that starts weird and gets weirder. Jonathan Ohnn aka The Spot brushes up against all corners of the weird lore… uh… corner, and of course includes our favourite Weird Lore feature: multiple deaths that didn’t take!

CARNAGE’s Comic History

Later this year we’ll see Cletus Kasady aka Carnage make his way to the big screen for the first time in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

The villain is an obvious choice for the Venom sequel as he has been a fan-favourite for decades after his debut in the comics and subsequent appearances in Spider-Man: The Animated Series (someone should do a podcast about that, huh), Spider-Man Unlimited, Ultimate Spider-Man & Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as 15 or so video game appearances.

We recently talked about Carnage’s comic book history on our podcast, which you can find below:

X-Men: Days of Future Past retrospective

Bryan Singer’s Love Letter To Bryan Singer

In this edition of our deep dive into the mutant saga, we’re talking about one of the more beloved recent X-men movies… which everyone is wrong about.

Days of Future Past from 2014 gets a lot of love and has things that feel like they’re part of a good movie but… is sort of terrible. From the series’ needless obsession with Hugh Jackman and the onset of Jennifer Lawrence’s intense apathy for this series to the revelation that magneto killed JFK (who’s a mutant by the way), stick with us as we open your eyes to the cinematic polished turd that is Days of Future Past.

Ah, well. At least Bryan singer was having fun! We’re glad somebody was. – H

S3E11 – Carnage à Trois

This week we’re covering season 3, episode 11 of Spider-Man: The Animated Series – ‘Carnage’.

It’s the Carnage episode! Even though last week was basically a Carnage episode and this one is more of a Venom one! It’s a bit of a Rambo: First Blood Part 2 situation.

This episode is a non-stop train to crazytown, so after a quick foray into a gameshow of Jack’s invention, we’re talking hipster demon lairs, cosmic sibling rivalries, symbiote peer pressure and psychic exposition

This episode closes off the Carnage two-parter as Cletus racks up 6 stars in GTA, while Jack make up for their own confusion with plenty of references to The Simpsons, Book of Henry, Zardoz and Wishmaster. Just to make it even. Then we have a quick chat about that new trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage… and a moment of silence for Woody Harrelson’s wig.
